
The Harlingen Area Builder’s Association held their February meeting at the Harlingen Country Club with over 60 members in attendance. HABA President, Armando Elizarde welcomed everyone and introduced the guest speaker Sue Ann Taubert, President of the Harlingen Board of Realtors. Sue Ann gave a very informative presentation on the role of the realtor, what the realtor can bring to the table and how the internet, and technology are playing a larger role in selling more homes and reaching a larger audience. She also citied some interesting statistics on home sales in the last few years and trends in the Harlingen market.
HABA Treasurer Ray Gonzalez gave his monthly treasure report and also talked about how membership will be open through February for builders interested in joining who wish to participate in the upcoming New Tour of Homes. Charity Committee Chairman, Debbie Elizarde made a $1,000 check presentation to Kath Preddy, Executive Director of RioFest, on behalf of HABA and reported that the funs will be used to sponsor the Children’s Exhibits for the upcoming RioFest in April.
Vice President, Arrellano Zapatero gave a report on the January workshop held with the City of Harlingen and the upcoming workshop scheduled for February. He also updated the members on new PL fees that are now in place and how they will affect builder’s projects.
Associate Spotlight member Edward Gonzalez introduced the “Monthly Spotlight” member, Sierra Title Company who presented the members information on the services available there and the second Sierra Title location that will be opening off of Stuart Place Road.
Other points of interest included the announcement of plans for HABA to attend “Rally Day” to be held in Austin, TX on February 28, where builders from around the state will rally at the capital grounds; meet their state representative and enjoy a lunch on the grounds of the capital.
